Annual Student-Professional Shadowing Week 

Pro-Am Day matches communications students with real-world professionals for a day of job shadowing, providing practical exposure to communications, marketing, and journalism careers, strategies and tactics in a true working environment. Students are paired with participating organizations throughout Central Texas. 

Why be a PRo Mentor? Become a Professional Host for a Day!  Pro-Am Day offers a unique opportunity to impact the future generation of PR professionals! Your dedicated time will help prepare students for their career path and to achieve their professional goals. It is a great opportunity to give students an outside perspective from one of many experienced public relations, communications, and marketing  professionals in Austin. You would be sharing your knowledge, skills and expertise with a mentee, providing them with a fresh perspective on their profession.

We have transformed our annual Pro-Am Day into Pro-Am Week in 2025 to make it more flexible and convenient for area professionals. You can pick whatever day is most convenient for you between the dates of Monday, Oct.  20 and Friday, Oct. 24 to host a student for a half-day of shadowing.

Looking for interns? This is also the perfect opportunity to meet ambitious students who will soon be entering the work force. Don’t miss out on this excellent platform to share your work and influence the future of our profession. And the best part? It is a small commitment of time on your behalf—only half a day to make a huge impact. Best of all there is no cost to host a student.

Interested in shadowing a professional in the public relations, marketing or other communications industry? Pro-Am Day allows you to explore a day in the life of a professional, ask questions, gain experience, and make valuable connections. Each student will be assigned to a professional mentor.

Pro-Am Day Potential Day

9 a.m. - Noon -- Start time can be adjusted as needed. You’ll meet with your assigned student(s) at a pre-designated location, where they’ll shadow you and get a firsthand look at your daily activities and responsibilities. This is a chance to show them what a day in the life of a PR pro looks like—your insights could be exactly what they need to jumpstart their careers!
