Spotlight: Students Help Shape PRSA Austin’s Membership Growth Strategy

This June, the PRSA Austin Chapter’s membership team partnered with public relations students from Texas State University as part of their capstone class. The student teams conducted in-depth research, analyzed audience input, and developed strategic campaigns focused on three key goals:

  • Increasing overall chapter membership

  • Encouraging crossover from PRSSA to PRSA among affiliated universities

  • Growing PRSSA membership at Texas State University, UT Austin, and St. Edward’s University as a long-term engagement pipeline

At the end of the semester, students pitched their campaigns to members of the PRSA Austin board. The presentations were thoughtful, data-driven, and aligned with industry standards. Board attendees were especially impressed by the students’ SMART objectives and the feasibility of their proposed, executable strategies.

The membership team will now present the recommendations to the full board for review and potential implementation over the next 6–12 months. These initiatives will support chapter growth, strengthen university relationships, and elevate the value of PRSA membership in our community.
